Best Sporting Event
Events are extremely important to the tourism industry in Scotland. Successful events attract large volumes of visitors, generate significant economic and media profile, and inspire and involve local communities. This category is open to sporting events that take place at a national and/or international level across Scotland.
Organisers of new or established local, regional or international sporting event of any size. Please note that you are applying for a specific iteration of the event and as such the event must have taken place within 12 months and outcomes should be known at the time of submission.
Sporting events that attract international or national audiences and can show evidence of media attention, local collaborations and benefits to Scotland’s tourism economy.
Entry Information
- Provide a brief description of the event, including location, dates etc. Outline any outstanding unique features. Describe the objectives of the event and how it performed against targets, detailing the measurements and mechanisms used. (10 points)
- Describe how you engaged with sponsors/partners in the community, private or public sector and/or corporate involvement and how they assisted in the delivery of the event? What were the outcomes of the support and how did you measure them? (10 points)
- Define the audience you were trying to reach through demographics etc and describe how you attracted them? Describe how the event has contributed to the media profile of Scotland and how it has strengthened Scotland’s image, providing evidence. (10 points)
- Provide examples of tangible benefits of the event for example; leader, environmental, community etc How do you balance the impact of visitors with the demands upon the physical environment? (10 points)
- Detail why you consider your event a success. Results must relate directly to your objectives. Include any agreed KPI’s for the event and report against achievement of those. What mechanisms did you use to evaluate the success of the event? How have you utilised the results and what steps are you taking to improve for future events? (10 points)
